Our Story
A little about us, and how we got here.
Hello!
We're Billy and Leah, the husband-and-wife team behind Baleen. We're designers, makers, and longtime lovers of good design. We've spent the last 14 years building a little jewelry company together in Seattle, and while a lot has changed along the way, we're still just as excited about creating beautiful things as we were when we started.
Good design shouldn't be out of reach.
We started Baleen in 2013 at our kitchen table, with a simple goal: make modern, interesting, well-made jewelry at prices that made sense.
With Leah's background in fashion and styling and Billy's in graphic design and jewelry making, we combined our different perspectives to create pieces that are easy to wear, a little unexpected, and anything but ordinary.
Still making it happen in Seattle
We opened our little shop in Ballard in 2015, with a production studio tucked into the back. As Baleen grew, so did our team (and our need for elbow room).
Today, our dedicated studio is just down the road, where our small team makes most of our jewelry by hand. We design, assemble, finish, and inspect our pieces ourselves, keeping production close and quality high. It's a hands-on approach, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
We believe good jewelry should be worn, loved, and lived in. That's why we're always dreaming up new designs, finding little ways to make the everyday more interesting, and keeping quality within reach.Thanks for being here. We're glad you found us.
